Josh joined the Applied Wildlife Ecology & Spatial Movement (AWESM) lab in 2025 as a Cabela’s Apprenticeship Undergraduate Researcher. He is currently pursuing a degree in Fisheries & Wildlife with minors in Statistics and Mathematics. He grew up in Bellevue, NE and frequently spent time outdoors running, biking, hiking, and hunting. He wants to use the more recent advances in modeling software, artificial intelligence, and the large amounts of data made available to researchers to discover new behaviors and characteristics of wildlife populations.
Josh will be researching how pronghorn in western Nebraska respond to severe winter weather conditions by analyzing spatial data from collars and weather data from Nebraska’s mesonet network. This project will help create a forecast for biologists to use to warn landowners of potential herds moving onto their property during certain weather conditions.
Upon graduation, Josh wants to pursue a master’s degree in quantitative wildlife ecology. Josh is also interested in minimizing human-wildlife conflict, particularly with large carnivores. He will be graduating from UNL in the Spring of 2026.
