Deepika received her BS in Forestry and Wildlife Sciences from Forest College and Research Institute, Hyderabad, India. Later, she went on to receive her Master’s in Wildlife Sciences from Auburn University in 2022.
With an interest in genetics, Deepika's research focuses on the application of genomics to wildlife problems. Though she worked with marine species in her Master's, she has great passion to extend her interests to species that are assigned with different projects which provide usable data and management recommendations to conservation managers and local communities.
Deepika’s PhD research with wild turkeys in Nebraska aims to identify and address the cause of species decline in the state. Using blood samples, she will work with collaborators to build the foundation of knowledge related to genetic aspects for the species within the state of Nebraska.
Deepika is also a part of the Nebraska Cooperative Fish & Wildlife Research Unit under Dr. Sarah Sonsthagen.
